16/12/2018 U12s Girls 0-10 Crediton U12s Girls

West Exe Girls U12  vs Crediton Girls U12 – 16/12/18

By Martin Salter

In what was always going to be a difficult match the girls all seven girls turned out with Misha on the sidelines nursing a shoulder injury. Crediton put in lots of connected passes and before half-time they were 5-0 up despite valiant efforts from Phoebe to the contrary with at least 7 effective and at times very brave saves.

With the ball barely leaving the West Exe part of the field in the second half another four goals made this one-sided game 10-0. One noteworthy high-point by a vastly improved Jess with a strong run on goal with the ball at her feet that could  have been her debut, which now seems only a matter of time.

All the girls tried hard in difficult circumstances.

(Wo)Man-of the match was awarded to Jess for her lightening  performance  throughout the game.

“Its football Jim but not as we know it…”

09/12/2018 – Ottery St Mary Girls 1-2 Westexe U12s Girls

Ottery Mary FC U12 vs West Exe U12 GIRLS – 09/12/18

After a brief discussion about goal and pitch sizes, the Super Seven (reduced by one from the Awesome Eight) lined up in expectation of a fairly balanced game based on the previous recent  encounter with Ottery. The first half bore this out with most action in the West Exe half and some gallant efforts by Misha, Maisy and Jess to keep a clean sheet until half-time. Some great holding play and connected passes from Beth linking up with Suki and Jess led to some chances. Also noteworthy was the assertive play from Jess and the ever present grafter Maisy together with numerous great saves from Misha (8+) which kept us at 0-0 and still in the game.

A motivational talk by Martin and the girls lined up for the second-half. However Ottery slipped in a great shot and left us  behind at 1-0.  Undaunted, Rayanna  got the ball and after a brief run forwards, lobbed it into the top left hand corner from 15 yards, a shot in the making all season.

All of a sudden we had a game on and in the unfamiliar territory of a draw could we dare to hope for an equaliser? The next 10 minutes were full of chances for West Exe, Sophia chased the ball towards the goalie several times and narrowly missed scoring her debut.

A confident Suki already great at holding onto the ball under pressure  took a great shot from 10 yards toe-punting it in with a force that said ‘this is going in’. At 2-1 and 10 minutes to go we dared to dream. Cue much agitation and encouragement on the West Exe sidelines as we endured a lingering last 10 minutes worthy of an England World Cup Semi-final. The girls stepped up and defended well and even cleared it to open up chances for another goal. Despite tired legs and no subs all girls put in 100% effort in the last few minutes to ensure the win.

The final whistle saw celebration scenes not seen at a West Exe match for several years!

(Wo)Man-of the match was awarded to Misha for her dynamic performance throughout the game –  Great work Misha!

Bring it on Crediton.
