05/01/2019 U13s Youth v Crediton

5th January 2019 KO 10.30am

Match Report by Geoff Bland

After a three week break for Christmas the team were eager for a match. In the past the games against Crediton have always been close so we knew that a good performance would be required. West Exe started the game well, with a couple of shots from James, one hitting the cross bar and another straight at the keeper. On six minutes West Exe made some positive passes in mid-field, followed by a one-two between Tee and Magic. Tee hit a sweet long range shot from outside the box to score a cracker. 0-1. Crediton replied immediately with a run down the right wing. West Exe goal keeper Thomas lost control of the ball as it rolled over the line. 1-1. West Exe pressed again and on 11 minutes Levi crossed from the right wing for Dylan to slot it home. 1-2. The remainder of the half was fairly even with both sides missing opportunities. Crediton came close a few minutes before half time when goalie Thomas charged down a shot but was deemed to handle the ball outside the box. Crediton’s subsequent free kick rattles the cross bar for Thomas to pounce on the rebounding ball.

HT 1-2

Straight from the kick off James shoots but straight at the keeper. Crediton’s goal kick allows their striker a shot at goal which resulted in Thomas making a great save. 12 minutes in and Crediton make a long through pass to the forward, who lobs it over the exposed West Exe keeper and into the back of the net. 2-2. For the next ten minutes, Crediton have the better of the play and are pushing up the pitch, a number of shots going wide or being saved. West Exe hit them on the break in the 23rd minute. A cross comes in from the right wing for James to side foot into the net but is disallowed for off-side. James soon makes amends a couple of minutes later with a fine long range shot. 2-3. Crediton push again and we couldn’t quite hang on, conceding in the thirty first minute. 3-3. Crediton had a final shot just before the final whistle for Thomas to pull off an important save.

Full Time 3-3

A difficult match which West Exe were unlucky not to win due to an offside decision.
