WEST EXE YOUTH V NORTH TAWTON u13’s

12th January 2019 KO 10.30

Match report by Geoff Bland

The pitch at Barton Fields was in reasonable condition but could do with a roll and there are some bare areas in front of both goals. The game started fairly evenly with West Exe gradually having greater possession. This resulted in their first real attempt after six minutes with a strike from Mickie which was well saved by the North Tawton keeper. A minute later we have a corner which Mickie takes with a floated ball into the area for Levi to get on the end and find the net. 1-0. A couple of minutes later North Tawton come close to equalising but Thomas pulls off a wonderful save. The remainder of the half sees both teams cancelling each other out and trying to hit each other on the break. Ellen makes a good tackle followed by a shot that’s saved and Dylan makes an effort in the 26th Minute.

HT 1-0

The second half sees West Exe come out fighting with more enthusiasm and determination. They push forward and apply good pressure with a shot from James being saved and another from Dylan going just wide. Ten minutes in and a through ball to Dylan puts him in with a chance, which he takes confidently. 2-0. West Exe continue to dominate with a shot from Mickie going just wide and a good run from Levi ending with the ball going across the goal and out for a goal kick. North Tawton slowly come back into the game and a through ball catches out our defence and they score. 2-1. This is followed by a period of good pressure by North Tawton with one shot being tipped onto the cross bar by Thomas and a mad scramble in the box before finally being cleared. Phew. West Exe build again for the final ten minutes not wanting to lose their advantage. James runs almost the full length of the pitch but shoots just wide. In the last minute of play West Exe have a corner. Mickie whips in a great ball for Levi to sore above everyone around him and head the ball into the back of the net. However, upon taking the corner kick the corner flag was taken out the ground and the goal is disallowed.

Full Time 2-1

An important win for West Exe in a game that showed good determination and team play. The defence worked hard against a team that liked the long ball and some hard tackling.
