20/01/2019 U12s Girls vs Twyford

Twyford Spartans U12 vs West Exe Girls U12  – 20/01/19

The team travelled to Bickleigh for the match against Twyford Spartans on an overcast but otherwise very playable day.  Although playing on a much larger pitch than we were used to the girls did their best. Despite some Premiership-level  tackling from Maisy, Twyford put  us under pressure and unfortunately several goals ended in the back of Phoebe’s net despite valiant her efforts and some brave saves.  Beth had a good game, moving the ball forward down the line and making the most of the space.

Phoebe’s mud-splattered kit revealed the true defending and saving going on at the West Exe end and we were 5-0 down at half-time.

The second-half started with Phoebe and Misha swopping roles. Misha made some energetic saves including catching the ball with both feet while lying on the ground which will probably never be replicated in a FA match ever again. Collectively the girls were tiring and a couple of clearly talented Spartans increased the final score to 8-0.

No West Exe player could be singled out so the (Wo)man-of the match went to the complete team.

Some of the team retired to the Fishermans Cot and enjoyed the river views over some J2Os. The girls showed the true spirit of the game by enjoying each others company more than the result and the Awesome Eight’ march on.
