Match Report

19/01/19 – Honiton Town U13 vs West Exe Rangers U13

1st Half

Both teams started the game lively and pressing forward. Honiton started the brighter of the 2 teams in the first 3 minutes of the game where West Exe failed to defend against a probing ball down the Honiton right wing, with a poor clearance resulting in Honiton’s first goal. 1-0

Both teams continued to probe with the game switching from end to end. A superb run down the left wing from Rocco for Rangers saw a suitably great cross into the danger area of the oppositions box but no Rangers players there to finish the move.

The Honiton keeper distributed the ball well with the Honiton players rushing forward and overwhelming the Rangers defence, resulting in a shot on goal, but the shot was placed wide of the goal.

A good move started by Dylan for Rangers down the right wing, passed to the feet of Luke up front but with a Honiton defender in close proximity to the Rangers front man saw a free kick given against Rangers in the ensuing battle for possession.

Another attack from Honiton down the left wing resulted in a great save from Rangers keeper Ollie.

The end to end theme for the first half of this match continued with another attack starting down the Rangers left wing by Rocco with the Honiton defence playing the ball out of play for a Rangers corner. The corner is played into the box with Central defender Jack who had gone up for the corner flicking a back heal at the ball as it drops directing the ball into the opposition net to level the score 1-1.

The status quo didn’t last long with Rangers seemingly losing concentration from the kick off by Honiton who walk through the defence and immediately burst down the left wing and a well taken 2nd goal from the Honiton Forward. 2-1.

Honiton continued on the attack with a shot on goal going wide. Ollie in the Rangers goal takes a superb goal kick putting Rangers on the attack straight away. A corner at the Honiton end of the pitch saw a ball floated into the box with the shot from Luke being deflected by the Honiton central defender into his own net. 2-2.

Several missed shots on goal from both teams as this game continues to be end to end action. A superb shot on goal from the tall number 16 of Honiton saw a goal mouth scramble resulting in the ball going over the line for Honiton’s 3rd goal, 3-2.

The game swings towards a period of Honiton dominance in possession with a poorly defended attack down the left wing resulting in their 4th goal. 4-2.

An injury to Dylan saw a West Exe substitution with Braylon coming on who immediately has an impact on the game with a well hit shot being deflected wide by the Honiton keeper. Honiton defend the corner with sees us to Half Time.

2nd Half

Rangers go on the offensive straight away with a great run through the middle with a chip of the keeper sailing over into the Honiton goal, 4-3.

The 2nd half see’s the end to end play continue, but the next goal saw a great pass over the top from Honiton opening up the Rangers defence and with the Rangers keeper left one on one the Honiton players gang up and end up with an open goal to shoot at, 5-3.

Several shots from both teams but it’s a ball placed through the middle that picks up the on rushing forward from Honiton who finishes to make it, 6-3.

West Exe Rangers are not letting this go and continue to attack Honiton and have several more shots on goal, two hitting the post. A break from Honiton see’s a Rangers player go down injured but play is allowed to continue and Honiton score their 7th, 7-3.

A break from Rangers with a superb ball over the top of the midfield which lands in the path of an on rushing Braylon on the right wing, he picks the ball up and strikes the ball from just outside the box with venom which sales past the Honiton keeper to give Rangers their 4th, 7-4.

The last attack of the game saw a Honiton player pass the ball past Ollie in the Rangers goal who was rushing him to narrow the angle available for the shot, this was a certain 8th goal until Miles sprinting back to defend clears the ball just before it reaches the goal line.

Full time whistle with the game finishing 7-4 to the home team. This was a very entertaining match with all of the players giving their all. A great advert for youth football!
