Coaches Report

An early start saw us arrive at the ground to welcomed by the Brixington Chairman. The groundsman was out, rolling the pitch and repainting the lines of the 5 pitches that were to be used that day, a real nice facility and a lovely surface for the West Exe players to eye up a potential semi-final opponent.

The warm up went well with all in good spirits. The focus of the day was to tackle risks head on, not to take the easy option and most importantly not get affected if what ever you try doesn’t work out first time.

We also had a conversation over player positional rotation which we had noticed had reduced somewhat over recent weeks, including the options for the keepers to come out of goal for 1 of their 2 scheduled games.

The morning was a perfect advert for youth football, with both sets of supporters stood amongst each other applauding both teams efforts!

Brixington played very well and had a number of strong players who were good on the ball and protected it very well in tight situations. We overcame this by playing quicker and moving the ball through the thirds with pace and control resulting in some fantastic link up play which lacked a crucial finish; something which Brixington did not struggle with at all. A number of long range finishes catching our keepers off guard with the pace and precision of the strike.

Overall, the points to take away from the day were:

-to take our opportunities to shoot more often

-to ensure we conduct ourselves better when falling behind on the scoreboard

-to continue to play in unfamiliar positions to challenge ourselves.

A fantastic day playing a similarly fantastic Brixington team who are a credit to their coaches Darren and Gavin.
