09/03/2019 U10’s vs Lympstone & Ottery

Under 10s vs Ottery St Mary and Lympstone

Saturday 9th March 2019

Match Report by Simon Piper

A blustery but dry day saw Barton fields looking a little worse for wear, long grass patches mixed with the effects of the recent weather made for some difficult playing conditions.

With 2 of the squad unavailable and another 2 playing after suffering midweek sickness bugs; the services of 2 under 9s players were called upon, Harry and Olly.

Wolves lined up against a Lympstone side who quickly made us aware we were in a game. 2-0 down in 5 minutes, only to be added to before half time by a nightmare moment resulting in an own goal back-pass.

HT 0-3

Half time saw the players moving off the ball better and creating opportunities a plenty with Lympstone now unable to get out of their own half.

An amazing turn around in performance and a credit to the boys tenacity.

Ollie S with the stand out 2nd half performance.

In the next game Wolves faced Ottery St Mary.

This time it was Wolves’ turn to strike early, Ollie S starting this game as he ended the previous, stealing the ball away from the advancing keeper and slotting home.

Some fantastic play from the boys, linking up well through the thirds but only able to go into the half 2-1 up

Lewis P came out strong, seemingly in two places at the same time; also managing to grab a rare hat-trick with a neatly executed 1v1.

6-2 the final score line.

Rangers on the other hand were having a different start to the day. Starting off against Ottery and winning 3-0 Jayden continuing his trend of scoring in pretty much every game, Finley also on hand to keep the clean sheet with a goal line clearance.

Rangers then found themselves in a difficult situation against the wind and 3-1 down in the 2nd game VS Lympstone. After the change of ends they fought back well as a team to make it 3-3 at full time, excellent performances from newest signing Harry B in defence and some fine saves from Josh G.

A good morning of football despite the wind.

Solid performances from the stand-in U9s.
