04/04/2019 North Tawton vs U13s

DIVISION ONE

NORTH TAWTON V WEST EXE YOUTH U13’s

Thursday 4th April 2019 K.O. 6.30pm

Report by Geoff Bland

Thursday evening saw a trip out into the countryside to play North Tawton. Having beaten Brixington in our previous match our confidence was high but straight from the kick off it was clear that North Tawton weren’t just there to make up the numbers. They immediately pressurized and looked to push forward whenever possible. An early shot went just wide and then in the seventh minute North Tawton have a free kick in our half out on the right wing. The ball comes in high, so goal keeper Thomas jumps to claim it but losses possession as the ball lands at the feet of their player to tap in for the opening goal. 1-0. West Exe gradually come into the match and are encouraged in the eleventh minute with a through ball to Gracjan, who is one on one with the keeper, he shoots and the keeper makes a brilliant save and receives a well deserved round of applause. North Tawton had a fast running striker up front and in the seventeenth minute he ran onto a good through ball to slot past our keeper to double their lead. 2-0. James had a long range shot saved almost straight from the restart. A few minutes later Gracjan runs through, past a couple of defenders but shoots wide. Sixty seconds later West Exe play an almost identical move but this time the shot goes over the cross bar. Just before half time Mickie takes a corner, sending the ball to James who scores to reduce North Tawton’s advantage. 2-1.

HT 2-1

Early in the second half Seb has a half chance but the keeper claims the ball. A couple of minutes later James runs with the ball from out on the right wing into the box, he rounds the keeper but shoots just wide from a narrow angle. The twelfth minute sees James float the ball into the box, the keeper tries to claim it but mishandles and leaves Seb with a nice easy tap in. 2-2. The score line doesn’t remain level for long as from the restart, North Tawton send a long ball into our half, past our defence to score their third. 3-2. Not long after West Exe have the ball in the opponents box, where a mad scramble ensues but eventually the ball gets cleared. West Exe have another chance in the seventeenth minute when North Tawton’s keeper comes to gather a soft shot but fumbles the ball for Seb to shoot but it goes inches wide. A few moments later there is another scramble inside the North Tawton box but again the ball ends up being cleared. North Tawton have a shot moments later but it goes high over the cross bar. The game is getting close to full time but West Exe start pilling on the pressure. A run down the right wing by Seb in the thirty third minute enables him to cross the ball to Gracjan and as the keeper dives in for the ball, Gracjan side foots past him to score into the empty net. 3-3. In the last minute of the game West Exe almost took the win from a lovely through ball by James but Gracjan and Seb get in each others way and the keeper is able to claim the ball.

FULL TIME 3-3

There are no easy games in this division. This was a tough game with a quick striker that kept our defence on their toes. North Tawton pressurized for every loose ball and were eager to regain possession, giving our mid-field little time on the ball. West Exe showed good team spirit and determination to come back and draw the game, almost winning it in the closing seconds. Well done West Exe.

little worse for wear
